MSP430F5151: Test PIN RESET Line

Part Number: MSP430F5151

Hi Team,

The question is, what does the Test pin do on this part when the reset line is not held low? We're looking to have the Test pin do double duty with a different signal, but want to know exactly what the risk is.

Regards,

RJ

  • Hello Ramon,

I would advise against utilizing the TEST pin in this way. Patterns between TEST and RST line are utilized to enter either of the JTAG (4-wire/2-wire) modes or BSL. If RST is never pulled low, you maybe ok, but you may have portions of the JTAG logic engaged, causing more current consumption, or if RST ever gets a dip, you may enter a JTAG mode or BSL mode.

This would be extremely risky in my opinion.
