MSP-FET430U64F: MSP-FET

Part Number: MSP-FET430U64F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2272, MSP-FET, UNIFLASH

Dear TI,

I used MSP_FET Flash Emulation Tool to load software into MSP430F2272 micro. It had been working but suddenly, the emulator failed and the next message appears:

I have changed the tool and it works again during two months and now it fails again and the emulator doesn't work. This is the third emulator that has been broken. Any idea why do the emulators fails? Is there any possibility to recover the emulators?

Best regards.

  • Hi Elena,

Do you have the newer "black" or older "grey" colored MSP-FET?

Any idea why do the emulators fails?

Since you have 3 MSP-FETs I would suspect the failure would have to do with how you are using it.

Are you using the standard 14-pin programming cable (~20cm)that came with the MSP-FET or are you using one that is longer? Or are you using something else?

Does the MSP-FET provide power to the MSP430F2272 during programming or does the MSP430F2272 get power from a local source on the PCB is it mounted?

Have you tried any of the 3 MSP-FETs on another computer?

Does re-booting your computer fix the problem?

Is there any possibility to recover the emulators?

This depends on the failure.  If the MSP-FET is damaged, then no.

If the MSP-FET only needs a 'cold-boot', there are instructions in the MSP Debuggers User's Guide, section 5.6.5.3.

Can you also try to use the Uniflash application to see if works?

  • Hi Dennis,

I have the newer black MSP-FET.

I am using the standard 14-pin programming cable, the one is with the emulator. The power supply is supplied by the PCB where the MSP430F2272 chip is mounted.

Yes, I tried it in another computer.

The re-booting process doesn't work with two devices and with the third device, the recover process is done, but finally an internal error message is showed .

The Uniflash application doesn't recognize the emulators.

It is possible to use the USB power to load the firmware? Maybe I can probe it but I haven't got more emulators!!!!

  • Ok, let me get some more background information from you.

    What OS are you running?
Do you have CCS (code composer studio)IDE or IAR IDE installed?
If you do, can you try to program the target using the CCS or IAR IDE?
Did you try to use Uniflash?

The third device that you tried to perform a cold boot on, did you try a second time?
