Hi,
I've recently acquired an ez430 chronos development kit for my final design project and have installed the CCS v4 on Windox XP professional SP3. All projects build without any problem but cannot debug on the jtag emulator. The message I get from CCS is that MSP430 FET USB1 not found. I checked the drivers in the Device manager but but there is a yellow caution sign against the Emulator driver. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall CCS but that did not fix the problem. I tried using IAR workbench but run into the same problem. How do I fix this, please?
Akwesi,
Right click in Device manager on the device and do an update of the drivers using the latest from IAR or CCS. If it doesn't, do the Have Disk option that should force a new driver.
Does it give a reason for the yellow caution indicator?
Gustavo
Gustavo,
thanks for the quick reply but updating the driver also does not work.
Are you suggesting I get the latest version for CCS? My link is so slow now that I don't think I can download such file. Any alternatives?
No reason is given for the caution sign, all I see is "this device cannot start"
Akwesi
Akwesi,
There are some other drivers available here:
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP430_JTAG_Interface_USB_Driver
If updating the driver doesn't work, you can try to "force" it to take a new driver. Do the update and select Install from a specific location. Then in the new screen select "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install". Then click on "Have Disk" and select the drivers that you downloaded.
Gustav
Gustavo,
Thanks for your help but that also didn't work. The device manager says "driver is not digitally signed" and therefore problem persists. Using the Have Disk" option also run into problems. It says: "there is no information related to the device in that location" even though the directory points to the downloaded drivers. Please help if you you have other options.
Thanks.
Akwesi.
Akwesi,
make sure that you're using the eZ430-UART driver for the installation (not the JTAG USB driver)
the link is also available from the wiki link that Gustavo provided, but here's the direct link: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/images/7/71/EZ430-UART.zip
Regards,
Dung
Dung,
The JTAG USB driver sometimes works since they both share the TUSB3410 IC (I've used it in the past myself). But as you say, the EZ430 driver should be more appropriate.
