MSP430F1611: msp430F1611 cannot replace 149

Part Number: MSP430F1611
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F149

msp430F1611 cannot replace 149

Because of the capacity of RAM, choose MSP430F1611 instead of MSP430F149. The software has been modified accordingly. on the same printed board. The board with MSP430F149 can download the program and simulation through the JTAG port 4-wire, but the board with MSP430F1611 cannot download the program and simulation through the JTAG port 4-wire. Do not you know why. My IAR EW 5.60.5. thanks

  • Hi Xueming,

What programming tool are you using, and what error message are you seeing when you attempt to program?

  • Hello

    I am using MSP430USB-Debug-Intreface LSD-FET430UIF..

  • Hi Xueming,

Thank you for sharing the debugger and error message. It does look like there is a hardware issue here. As you've noted, the pinouts for the MSP430F1611 and MSP430F129 should be compatible, so unless the MSP430F1611 was accidentally rotated when placed there must be another issue.

Since it seems to be hardware related we should do a few sanity checks.

Was the MSP430F1611 manually soldered onto the board you are testing with? Have you done an optical inspection of the solder joints to ensure there is no shorting or poor connections (especially around the JTAG Pins)? Are the boards receiving external power, and can you verify that their current draw is similar? Have you tested this on only a single board so far?

Are you still able to go back and program the MSP430F149 based board without any issue? If so your debugger and setup probably aren't the issue, but you could still try this with a separate PC and USB Cable.

Let me know if you any of these suggestions lead anywhere. If you've tried any other debug steps already that information would be helpful too.

  • Hello:
Thank you very much for your reply. I now use IAR EW 5.20.1 software and replace TI's MSP-FET430UIF, and the program download and simulation are fine. thanks。

    Xmyu

  • Hi Xmyu,

Glad to hear you've resolved the issue. I will mark this as closed for now.

Feel free to make another post if you encounter any other issues.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher
