MSP430F5172: MSP430F5172IRSBR starting current is too high

Part Number: MSP430F5172

Hi Team,

When testing the starting current of MSP430F5172 on the customer's production line, the starting current silkscreened 1CBC reached 218uA, and the starting current silkscreened 1B1C was 86.5 uA. Could you please tell me why there was such a big difference in the two starting currents silkscreened IC?

Kind regards,

Katherine

  • Hi Katherine,

Since we don't specify starting current in the datasheet, there is not a definite range of starting currents we can give you; it depends on your application and what modules you are using. We do, however, specify current for active mode/other modes; current for active mode is 180 uA. You are at 218 uA, so you may be in active mode.

  • Hi Amuruta,

The customer replied that with the same configuration, there was a considerable difference between 1CBC and1B1C, the two silkscreens.

(Huge current: 217uA)                                              (The current is OK: 86.8uA)

    Kind regards,

    Katherine

  • Hi Katherine,

So once again, there are no specifications for a starting current and it is ok if it significantly different. The only time that a customer would need to be concerned is if they are running in a specific mode and their current is outside the specs on the datasheet not if the currents are different on different silkscreens as long as they are within the specs.

    Best,
    Amruta
