MSP430F5259: Trouble writing memory block

Part Number: MSP430F5259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Trouble writing memory block!    My life was pretty good until this started to happen.  It seems like a hardware issue, because without every changing my code I can get the emulator attached if I spend enough time rebooting, and unplugging the emulator and restarting the target and things like that, and then suddenly the emulator will attach.  I have tried different MS-FET and different target boards, and they are all suffering from this issue.

  • Hi Tom,

To clarify, this issue only occurs some of the time and nothing was changed before it started occurring? Do the MSP-FETs work with other devices/is the issue occurring with all target boards?

    Amruta Deole

  • Hi Amruta.   The problem seems to have come out of nowhere.    I added quite a bit more code, but when I remove that code the problem does not go away.

I have two MS-FET, and I have several target boards.  I also have more than one laptop.  I just reloaded Code Composer on both machines.  I got the emulator running for a while, but then I changed the code and tried to attach the emulator again, and sure enough it won't load.

The problem is not consistent.  Sometimes I can attach after I reboot the laptop for instance.

Sometimes after I clean the project, then the emulator will attach.

  • I just got the emulator to attach again by cycling power on the target.  I never used to have to do this kind of thing.

  • Hi Tom,

Are you plugging into a high speed USB port on your laptop?

    Amruta Deole

  • Yes, I have tried that.  Using two different laptops, two different MSP-FET, different cables, different targets.  This is very confusing.   I un-installed and re-installed CCS on both laptops.

  • Hi Tom,

To double check, are you plugging into a high speed USB port? Some laptops with these ports have had an issue with the MSP-FET in the past.

    Amruta
