MSP430F5438A-EP: "Software BSL Invocation"

Part Number: MSP430F5438A-EP

Hello,

I am planning for BSL via UART (not pins).

  1. In SLAU319AF, is this part a "F5xx"?
  2. In SLAU319AF, Table 1-1, is this part described by the column F5xx non-USB?
  3. If not, is there anything except the SLAS967A datasheet describing BSL for the 'F5438 ?
  4. Can software invocation and BSL operation use ANY of the UARTs? Or must it use P1.1, P1,2 ?

Thanks,

Emmett

  • Hello Emmett,

    1. Yes MSP430F5438A-EP is an MSP430F5xxx part.

    2. Yes

    4. SW invocation of BSL invokes the default BSL. It does not changes its functionality. However, on MSP430F5xxx devices, the BSL is stored in a special portion o Flash and can be customized, for example to use a different UART instance and thus pins. Please see the "CUSTOM BSL" documentation on section 3 of www.ti.com/tool/MSPBSL
