MSP-EXP430G2ET: is USB-2-MDIO software compatible with MSP-EXP430G2ET

Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2ET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB-2-MDIO, , ENERGYTRACE, MSP430G2553

Hi,

I am trying to use the USB-2-MDIO software to read registers from PHY LAN8770 with an MSP-EXP430G2ET. however, I am not able to set communication with the PHY I tried to measure MDIO and MDC signals with an oscilloscope using external pull-up resistors (and also without pull-ups) and it seems that nothing is happening in the P1.4 and P1.5 pins, then I wonder if it is really compatible with my evaluation board.

Regards

  • Hello,

I haven't personally used the USB-2-MDIO software before, but based on the documentation, it should work on the MSP-EXP430G2ET.  The MSP-EXP430G2ET is an updated version of the very original launchpad, the MSP-EXP430G2, but the "ET" stands for EnergyTrace.  This update was mainly focused on updating the programmer of the launchpad to add the ability to do power analysis, but both boards can use the same MSP430G2553.  So as long as the code is programming without error, then it should be fine.

Is the board communicating with the GUI?  I checked the USB-2-MDIO user's guide and see that for G2 launchpads you do need to check and probably rotate the UART pins.

Please review that and let me know that it looks configured correctly.

    Thanks,

    JD
