Hi !

I am currently using EVM430-FR6047 and I am going to design a board with MSP430FR5043
I want to add a temperature measurement option.

I saw in:
MSP430FR604x, MSP430FR504x 16-MHz MCU up to 64KB FRAM, 12-Bit High-Speed 8-MSPS Sigma-Delta ADC, and Integrated Sensor AFE datasheet (Rev. B)
That should connect somehow with the ADC12

Can I get a recommendation on how to connect a temperature sensor to the MSP without adding more hardware?
Which sensor is recommended?

Hello Ido,

The MSP430 devices have an integrated temperature sensor that's part of the ADC12. There should be a code example showcasing this in MSP430Ware. It does have limitations on accuracy and only measures chip temperature.

Otherwise you'll need to add some kind of thermistor externally and connect to an open ADC channel.

So how do you recommend measuring water temperature?

I use MSP
and connects to it 2 1MHz ultrasonic transducer sensors

I'm having a little trouble understanding that a water temperature sensor will require contact with the water - so how do you do it?

Ido,

This is outside the scope of what I can help you with. You would need some sort of temperature probe thermistor that can be placed either in direct contact with the fluid or in some sort of port/housing that allows for thermal conduction. With those types of propes, you may need to use some additional analog signal conditioning to amplify the signal as well.

There is no way to measure the fluid temperature without adding more hardware. As Jace says, this goes way beyond our scope since it depends on way too many factors. I suggest you start here at the omega site and dig deeper as needed.

I would put a sheathed thermocouple into the stream. but YMMV.
