MSP430F6779: Can I measure a current without having a voltage

Part Number: MSP430F6779

Hello,

I am currently evaluating the MSP430F67 platform for a 3 Phase + N Rogowski current sensor application. In the Energy Measurement Design Center I can only create a phase if  there is a voltage measurement channel. I am wondering now if there is a need for that, for the measurement library to function, since I do not have a voltage to measure. Does anyone know if this the current measurement will be valid without a voltage measurement?

Thank you, kind regards,

Ruven

  • Hi Ruven,

Phase is the relationship between the voltage and current, without the voltage component you wouldn't be able to get the phase relationship. The current measurement is a reading of the voltage coming from the Rogowski coil, so the current reading itself can still be read without the voltage channel.

    Regards,

    Luke
