MSP430F5438A: Doesn't MSP-FET support BSL anymore?

Part Number: MSP430F5438A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Tool/software:

Hello,

we tried to use the MSP-FET to access an MSP via BSL refering to this:
https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp-low-power-microcontrollers-group/msp430/f/msp-low-power-microcontroller-forum/391358/does-msp-fet-support-bsl

We used

-the wiring shown there

-the BSL Scripter 3.4.0.1

-MSP-FET V1.4a

We've checked it (also with the included Script Examples) with 9600baud, also with 9601 [BSL-Entry sequence + Power up 3.3V (UART BSL], checked it with an Oscilloscope - but nothing happens on this 4 Pins!

We checked the FET (with the MSP-Burner; flash a file) and also the connections (on Pin 2 are 3.4V) ->ok

So our question is: do we use the right software for using the MSP-FET for accessing a MSP via BSL?

Best regards,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Does the MSP-FET show any error condition when you send commands, or do the LEDs represent some error condition?

The BSL functionality hasn't been removed from the MSP-FET. Have you checked all of your firmware versions to make sure you are updated to a version that supports BSL? It looks like the post you refer to lists revisions that support BSL.

If you are sending these commands to the MSP-FET and nothing appears on the BSL pins, I'd be concerned about the MSP-FET, and check for error conditions there, as you should see some traffic on BSL even if the target MSP isn't responding.
