[FAQ] USB vendor ID and Product ID for MSP430 Microcontrollers

There are several options for new USB product developers to get a vendor ID for your company. Three of them are:

Become a member of the USB-IF. The annual membership fee is US$4,000. Download the membership application.
Become a USB-IF non-member logo licensee. The licensing fee is US$2,000 for a two year term (this fee is waived for USB-IF members). Download the Logo Trademark License Agreement and vendor ID form.
Request the use of TI’s vendor ID in conjunction with an assigned unique Product ID. There is no charge for this option. The VID and unique PID number to use with your MSP430 product can be attained by completing and submitting the form at the following link on www.ti.com:

Hi Les,

I have to ask you a question which is - maybe - offtopic here: What is TI's vendor ID? Is it 0451?

I'm asking, because I do some Virtual Machine testings at the moment and need to know (look here: http://e2e.ti.com/forums/p/9561/37676.aspx#37676)

Yes it is.

Also in case it is of interest to somebody, the PIDs that TI will be providing under the program that Les introduced above will be in the 0x2047 VID domain, which has been acquired by the MSP430 team[:D]

Moving forward this space will also be utilized by MSP430 tools, EVMs, built-in USB BSLs, etc.

Use that search thingy on the TI home page. For instance, searching for "ti msp430 usb id" led to search results that included this document: SLAA457.

In that document, section 5.2.2 (on page 20) tells you how to request a PID from TI. Go to that page and on the left column is a big red "VID Request" button.
