Application UART problems

Hi,

I have the ez430-RF2500 demo kit and I am having problems getting the application UART working on my dell lap top running windows 2000.

The driver installs fine when I plug the module into the single USB port - windows driver list tells me its using com 5 (sometimes com 3), but when I run up the terminal ( I've tried HyperTerm and Putty), I just get the few few chars then it stops.

I know that the module is sending chars ok cos i've used it on a desktop running windows XP without any problems.

I think it maybe a problem with the driver (usbser.sys)? but I've tried reinstalling etc with no luck.

Has anyone seen similar problems / have any ideas?

Thanks

Mark.

  • Dear Divvy,

In section 7.1 of the User's Guide (link: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/slau227c/slau227c.pdf) we list only XP and Vista as supported OS for the EZ430. Windows 2K should also work, but it is not "officially" supported.

I have heard of some problems reported by customer using Win2k and the EZ430 in the past, but this could be due to other conflicting applications on the Win 2K machine.

I don't really have the knowledge to comment on driver specifics for each OS, but perhaps we could drill down into this issue by determining the error message you receive. I speculate, however, that it is an issue with the PC since your setup works with the XP machine.

Ok - Many thanks Brandon - looks like I'm stuck with debugging using just the LEDs for the moment!

I'll have to save up for a more up to date laptop!

    Thanks

    Mark
