MSP430F5659: flashing UART BSL (Overwrite default USB BSL) and flash application through new UART BSL

Hi Team,

In of our project we do have requirement to update application through UART BSL using MSP430-BSL.

After google on same, I got lot of confusion regarding procedure to modify default USB BSL to UART BSL. As there is no straight forward documentation or reference for MSP430F5659.

Please do kindly share for modifying to UART BSL and flashing application through UART BSL:
- Required hardware modification in target to get communication with MSP430-BSL.
- Reference project(UART BSL hex file) and tools required to flash UART BSL, also provide respective steps.


it would be helpful on immediate response.

    Hello satyanarayan,

    Looking at SLAU319 MSP430 Flash Device Bootloader document, it appears for this device it is possible.

    Now the next question is, what do you use for the UART BSL and how to replace the default USB BSL?

    For that, take a look at MSPBSL (Bootloader (BSL) for MSP low power microcontrollers). Go to step #3 and download the BSLMSP_CustomBSL430.

    After downloading you will find the latest BSLs for your device family in the directory:   [Install Path]/ MSP430BSL_1_02_00_01 / Released_BSL_Images / MSP430F665x_Family/ UART BSL
