What is the exact load capacitance of crystal for msp430F2617 micro controller??

Dear Sir,

I am using the MSP430F2417 microcontroller. using it in a high frequency mode ie.16MHz. So I need to connect external crystalof 16MHz. This I knows ,But What should be the load capacitance of the crystal for MSP430F2617 microcontroller.

Or What should be the procedure for selection of crystal & its load capacitance???.

What is the exact load capacitance of crystal for msp430F2617 micro controller.

What happens if I select wrong load capacitance PF crystal for msp430F2617

    Choose a crystal that meets your frequency, size, cost, etc requirements first.

    It depends on the crystal that you choose. You need to look in the datasheet for the spec for that crystal. MSP430 doesn't care (for the most part). See http://www.lpcware.com/content/faq/how-calculate-value-crystal-load-capacitors or any number of other similar websites found with a search engine.

    Also know that some MSP430 devices have internal selectable load capacitance on the XTAL pins. This can be used by itself or in conjunction with physical components on the PWB.

    The crystal may not start, or it may run at a frequency slightly off from what you desire. Then, you simply change the bill-of-materials (BOM) for your board and substitute in a different value. But if you do that calculations ahead of time you should be very close.

    For MSP430F2617 The currents are characterized with a Micro Crystal CC4V-T1A SMD crystal with a load capacitance of 9 pF. The internal and external
    load capacitance is chosen to closely match the required 9 pF. sometime Values are specified by crystal manufacturers. For a correct setup, the effective load capacitance should always match the specification of the used crystal.  Refer the datasheet.
