Development kit for single phase electrical measurement

I send this post because I would like further information about the development kit for single phase electric measurement. I can see in the TI web site that the available development kit for this purpose are the following :

- EVM - MSP430FE4272 (http://www.ti.com/tool/evm430-fe4272)

- EVM - MSP430FE427A (http://www.ti.com/tool/evm430-fe427a)

- EVM - MSP430F6736 (http://www.ti.com/tool/evm430-f6736)

Is there any other kit for electrical measurement ? If I order the EVM - MSP430F6736 devloppement kit, how can I program the MSP430F6736 microcontroller ? Do I need additionnal hadware to program and debug with this kit ?

Have you seen the new TI Designs page? www.ti.com/tidesigns

There you can find the single-phase metering design page which has information about hardware and software: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-SINGLEPHASEMETER like the EVM430-F6736 kit that you mentioned.

In order to program that kit, the additional hardware tool that you will need is the MSP-FET430UIF.

Can we program board using BSL over DB9 connector instead using MSP-FET430UIF.

Hi Santosh,

Looking at the schematic in www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slaa517 p. 26, it looks like the TX and RX for the RS-232 are on pins 1.4 and 1.5 of the F6736. These are not the pins used for BSL - BSL on F6736 is on pins P3.0 and P3.1 (see datasheet www.ti.com/lit/gpn/msp430f636 p. 5). So this is not accessible from the DB9 connector on the EVM.

You will need the MSP-FET430UIF to program the EVM. Even if BSL was accessible here, BSL gives you no debugging capability but rather only allows you to load code, so you would still probably want to have an MSP-FET430UIF so you could set breakpoints, etc.
