MSP-EXP430G2/BOOST-DRV8711 ADC Inputs

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOST-DRV8711, MSP430G2553

Hello,

I have the MSP430 LaunchPad along with the BOOST-DRV8711 BoosterPack. I need to be able to compare two outputs (voltages) from light sensors, and control a stepper motor based on these values. It seems as though the BoosterPack uses all of the pins on the LaunchPad. Is it possible to connect the light sensors to the ADC inputs and use the BoosterPack at the same time? Any help/recommendation is appreciated.

  • Hi Ryan!

Looks like the next line-following-robot ;)

I don't have that BoosterPack and never saw it in real life, but from the User's Guide it looks like you can use three free connections, look:

The two on the left are TEST and RST and cannot be used, but the three on the right are P1.1, P1.2 and P1.3:

I assume you will use the MSP430G2553. These three pins can be configured to act as analog inputs A1, A2 and A3, so no problem with connecting two light sensors, I think.

  • Dennis,

Thank you for the quick response! The problem I'm having is that the BoosterPack fits on top of the Launchpad, covering the pins (even the ones not in use). So I'm wondering if there is a workaround for this.

    Thanks,
    Ryan
  • In this case you might have to solder some additional wires on the pins of the BoosterPack or on the pins of the LaunchPad.
