MSP-EXP430G2ET: MSP-EXP430G2ET + BOOST-DRV8711

Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2ET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOST-DRV8711, , DRV8711

Hi,

My customer wants to evaluate using MSP-EXP430G2ET and BOOST-DRV8711. Can we use BOOST-DRV8711 with G2ET instead of MSP-EXP430G2?

(There is a change in P1.3 of G2ET, and I'm concerned about its effects.)

Regards, Rei

  • Hello Rei,

I checked the schematics of MSP-EXP430G2ET and MSP-EXP430G2. The only difference I can see at the P1.3 is the according to schematics not placed 100nF capacitor C24.

If this should be a problem for the BOOST-DRV8711, it should be easy to fix it.

    Best regards

    Peter

  • The G2ET Launchpad schematic [Ref UG (SLAU772) Sec 6] shows an external pullup (R6) on P1.3. The G2 Launchpad (at least some revs) didn't have that; my Rev 1.5, e.g., doesn't.

According to BOOST-DRV8711 UG (SLVU967A) Fig 3, the G2(ET) P1.3 pin (J1.5) is not connected on the Booster Pack, so this is probably moot.

  • Thank you for your reply. I worry about evaluating DRV8711.

Does the combination of G2ET and BOOST-DRV8711 work?

  • I don't have a BOOST-DRV8711, so I can't say for certain. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

P1.3 doesn't seem to be a concern since it's not connected on the Booster Pack [Fig 3]. P2.1/3/5 are connected on the Booster Pack [Fig 3 again] and are connected to an RGB LED on the Launchpad; these pins can be disconnected from the LED by removing the jumpers on J8. The Booster Pack header pins appear to match those on the G2.

  • Thank you for your reply. I agree!
