MSP-FET: MSP-FET fails programming every second time

Part Number: MSP-FET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6989

Dear all,

My customer has bought a MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool. This does every second firmware download successful, while the other one fails.

This behavior is always given. The green power LED turns off and the following error messages appears:
Error Message: "Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported)"

Environment:
IAR 6.40
MSP430FR6989
MSP430.dll v3.9.1.2

Is this a know issue?
Are there any bug fixes available?
Are there any additional information you need?

Thank you,

Frank

  • Hi Frank,
Can you supply FW? This would be quickest to solve if we can reproduce it here.
Layers and schematics might also be helpful.

Does this fail the same way with any other programmers?
Is this a new design, or has this behavior popped up on an existing design.

It sounds like either the FW is putting the MSP in a state that hinders programming, or that there is an option selected in IAR that is causing the device to not be fully erased.

    Some things to try/check:
    1. Try programming the MSP with a simple example, like BlinkLED, and see if you observe the same behavior.
    2. Try using Elprotronic fet-pro430 lite software to program the device. This will sometimes give you more details as to which steps are failing.
    3. You could also try programming this on a launchpad.

The combination of these three things should at least get us in the direction of ruling out HW, FW, or IDE.
  • Frank,
    Did that help?
If so, what was the issue?
If not, do you have any other questions?
  • Frank,
I will need to close this issue. Can you confirm if my answer helped, or if you need more assistance?
  • Closing this due to unresponsiveness. If this needs to be reopened, just let me know :-)
