MSP-FET: MSP-FET failing to program MSP430G2955IRHA40R in production programming fixture

Part Number: MSP-FET

We have a production PCBA programming fixture that programs a MSP430G2955IRHA40R in-circuit using an MSP-FET programmer. We have one MSP-FET that functions perfectly. We bought two additional MSP-FET devices and both fail to program the IC.

We are using a Linux embedded computer to run the programming sequence. Same hardware/software, different MSP-FET devices don't work.

We assume there is different firmware on the working MSP-FET. Need some help to understand how to copy this working firmware to the new MSP-FET devices.

  • Hi Craig,

the MSP-FET firmware comes from CCS/IAR. You could try to connect your new MSP-FET to a CCS version which is working and start a debug session. CCS/ IAR will notice a version mismatch between itself and the MSP-FET and shws the "Update Firmware" option. That way the MSP-FET would be updated with the firmare that's tied to the CCS/IAR.
We'd only need to make sure that your IDE is not updated to a version that's working with the new MSP-FET firmware version.

While you try this workaround, I'll check for a different way.

Please let me know in case this already solves your problem.

    Best regards,
    Britta
  • Hi Craig,

I suppose you were able to solve your issue as I didn't hear from you anymore.
Please let me know if you are still in need of advice, otherwise I will go ahead and close this thread in the next few days.
Note that the thread will always re-open when you reply to it again.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Britta
  • We resolved the issue by other means. We built github.com/.../mspdebug on an Ubuntu system. This runs on the embedded Linux device.

    Thanks,
    Craig
