Compiler/MSP430F427: Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported) Session aborted!

Part Number: MSP430F427
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FE427A, MSP-FET,

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

Hello everyone

I am new to TI's microcontroller and need some help  getting started.

I have a MSP430FE427A microcontroller on a custom board which I made .

I downloaded the CODE TI Slac488 . IAR MSP430 When I connected theMSP FLASH EMULATION TOOL with  board and start the debug.

Ok, that's it. Can someone help me to solve this problem.

  • Hi,

Let's start with the basics. I'm assuming that you're using the MSP-FET. Is this correct? In your post, you have both MSP430F427 and MSP430FE427A listed. Which device are you using? Also, do you have access to an EVM or target board for the device that you're using? Since this is a custom board, can you share the schematics? You need to make sure that the device has the proper supply voltages, capacitance, and JTAG interface implementation. Are you using 4-wire JTAG or 2-wire SBW?

  • hi,

    thank you for your answer.

The card that I have used MSP430FE427A .i setting the VCC jumper to INT .I use 4wire jtag. I have a confused what the power supply of the card 230V or alternative 5v external but I did the two test is the same answer 'unkoun device'.

    schematic is found in slaa203c.

My goal is to test the slac488 code on the c .a.d card on the pulse led.

Is it possible that the cause of problem comes from the card how to test that my functional card or not? Because when I turn on the card there is no indication about the functionality of the MSP430F427A card

  • Thank you for the screenshots.

On the EVM430-FE427A, make sure you're selecting the 3.0V output from the TPS77030, as shown in the schematic. This header allows the board to be powered by the 5V external connection or from the high voltage (obviously converted down). Also, do not connect the high voltage to the board when you are connecting your MSP-FET to the EVM. Be very careful.

  • thunk you very much for your  help

  • Hi Arfaoui,

Were you able to connect to the device successfully? It sounds like you were, but I just want to confirm. If so, I'll close the thread.
