MSP430FR5739: Need help interpreting BOM in http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-BATTERYLESSNFCKEYBOARD

Part Number: MSP430FR5739
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-BATTERYLESSNFCKEYBOARD, RF430CL330H

Hi.

We are trying to play around with the NFC keyboard design, but we ran into trouble with the BOM.

For example, some of the columns in the BOM in  have different values for capacitance. (See line 2, for example)

Can a kind soul please point us to a valid list of corrected resistances/capacitances?

Secondly, the BOM did not list the actual NFC antenna used in the design. Can someone kindly point us to a manufacturer for the antenna?

Thank you very much.

  • Hi Jason,

When creating the Altium schematic the designer used a part with a pre-defined description before changing the value to the correct amount for the specific application, however they never changed the description itself. Therefore the Part Description column is invalid but the Value column has the correct resistances/capacitances and coincides with the provided schematic. I would also recommend that the value of C10 be changed to 470 nF as this is the preferred value from the FR5739 User's Guide. I will see whether the NFC antenna can be provided and if the BOM can be altered to avoid further confusion.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Thank you for the very quick (and useful!!) response!

How about Line 6? the value column for the resistances is listed as 0. (I assume that can't be the case :-) ?

    Thanks again!
  • These are simply configuration/jumper resistors that can be opened to break a connection but normally just provide a short/link between traces, therefore the value of 0 ohms is correct.

  • Hello Jason,

There isn't another BOM available for this TI design, what is on that page is all that is provided and nothing more. There is no support available for that particular design (which is 'owned' by the NFC apps team that I am a part of, not MSP430).

For any BOM elements concerning the RF430CL330H, I would recommend looking at reference designs for that part specifically such as: www.ti.com/.../TIDM-DYNAMICNFCTAG

For the NFC antenna, any over-the-shelf 13.56MHz antenna would be usable. Again, we don't have information on which one was used specifically.
