MSP430FE4272: MSP Gang Programmer ERROR 13: Vcc is too low

Part Number: MSP430FE4272
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, , MSP-GANG

I programe my MSP430FE4272 MCU  using MSP-FET and of couarse the MSP Gang programer(if "Target Power supply" is set to "Supplied by Programmer, whole range")

I was wondering if the external VCC is realy low as reported by MSP-Gang Application, but the external voltage is 3.1 V. Beyond that I programmed the Same MCU using an MSP-FET.

here is the snap shot of the error I faced.

Any thing I should do please?

  • Hi Getaneh,

Please ensure you have the MSP-Gang correctly connected to your PCB when using a external supply for the MSP430 VCC. An excerpt from the MSP-GANG Programmer User's Guide:

  • Sorry for not sharing my experience soon, though it's kind of tricky. Setting the power supply option to"supplied by the Programmer" resolved my issue. But there is no path(trace) on the PCB to let the target device powered by the Gang programmer. It seems there is some problem on the Gang programmer on switching the "power supply option".

  • Hi Getanah,

Have you verified that you are connecting the MSP430 VCC to the Vextin (pin 4) of the MSP-GANG when choosing the external VCC option? Without this connection, you can get the error's you are seeing above.

When switching to "supplied by the Programmer" the MSP-GANG is no longer trying to sense the MSP430's VCC and you don't receive an error. This still doesn't mean that communication is working properly and you are operating out of spec.
