MSP430G2403: EnergyTrace and power through SBW interface

Part Number: MSP430G2403
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR2433, ENERGYTRACE

We are working with a small datalogger powered with a CR1216. We use an MSP-EXP430FR2433 Launchoad to measure consumption (powering the board with the launchpad). I've noticed that if I connect the board to the launchpad using only GND, TEST and RST (whit out a battery) the PCB works.

Is my understanding that the PCB is being powered by the SBW interface through clamping diodes inside the chip. Is that correct?

How migth that affect the measurements I get while using EnergyTrace since there are other currents flowing around besides Vcc?

Thanks!
