Hello,

I want to build a smart meter with NFC/RFID enabled system. So i choose MSP430F67641 and TRF7970A/ DLP-7970ABP module to setup the environment.

Can you please let me know which is the base board i can choose to setup the system. Also i assume it is possible to assemble MSP430F67641  and TRF7970A/DLP-7970ABP together with same base board.

Please correct me if i have gone wrong.

    Hello,

    If you'd like to design a smart meter, I would highly recommend looking at our MSP430F6779A-based EVM430-F6779. Unlike the MSP430F67641, the MSP430F6779A is supported by our newly-released Energy Measurement Design Center (MSP-EM-DESIGN-CENTER). It would allow you to very quickly be up and running on the e-meter side.

    For the NFC side, the modules that you're looking at should work for your application. For integrating these modules into the MSP430F6779A design, you could use the EVM430-F6779 but it doesn't allow you to easily connect to all pins. So, I would suggest that you purchase the target socket board for the MSP430F6779A, the MSP-TS430PEU128. This way, you can develop the application code on the F6779A and easily connect to the NFC modules.

    Then, you could move on to developing your custom board and building a PCB with everything integrated.

    Thanks for the overview. Its really helpful. Now it seems i can have 2 options for my application.

    1> Connect NFC module TRF7970A with EVM430-F67641(MSP430F67641 SoC, Wifi/ZigBee network). As per http://www.ti.com/tool/EVM430-F67641

    2> Connect NFC module TRF7970A, MSP430F6779A, CC3100MOD in MSP-TS430PEU128. As per you suggested.

    Please let me know if the combination are okay or not. if not please point required change.
    Along with this, let me know if any Appnote is available.

    Can you also inform  in India from where i can buy  the components/ complete board?

    Hello,

    The EVM430-F67641 is fairly expensive, so to get started, I would recommend option 2. However, the target board for F6779A differs from the one for F67641A, so please keep this in mind before buying anything. I would recommend the F6779A because it's supported by EMDC, but if you're not planning to use EMDC, it doesn't really matter.

    While dated, the Implementing Wi-Fi Connectivity in a Smart Electric Meter TI Design Guide (TIDC-3PHMTR-WIFIXR) should help.

    For purchases, you should be able to buy them through our TI Store at store.ti.com.
