CCS/MSP-EXP430FR2433: MSPFlasher shows Exit: 44 ERROR: Could not set device Vc

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR2433
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, EK-TM4C129EXL,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I'm having an issue trying to program a MSP43FR2433 Launchpad with CCS 8.3.0.  It keeps trying to update the firmware on the board but bombs out setting the VCC.  I've tried with MSPFlasher and UniFlash and in all cases it fails for "ERROR on close: Could not set device Vcc".

I've used this board before so am I am not sure why I am seeing this issue now.

Also, I have looked at the previous posts and have not found a solution for this.

This is the output from MSPFlasher.

  • Hi Jon,

Did you powered the board properly? You may measure the voltage on J1-1 and confirm the device is powered.
  • I appreciate the response.

The board is now connected directly to the back of a Dell T110 Tower and is showing the previously installed code running with a 430BOOST-SHARP96 mounted on top of the board.  I would suspect if there were no power or lack of power to the board that the display would not display images.

  • Hi Jon,

Did you means that your problem is fixed now?
  • No, unfortunately the issue is not resolved. The board powers fine and runs the currently loaded program. However, due to the Vcc error being reported, I can not program it or update the firmware.

The same cable and USB port connection on the T110 works fine with other boards though including a EK-TM4C129EXL.
  • Hi Jon,

You may need to check the J101 of the MSP-EXP430FR2433 to confirm the eZ-FET on the launchpad is connected to the device properly. Also please remove the SHARP96 board when you test again. I look forward to your test result.
  • The 5v and 3.3v on J101 are fine.  Also, I have tried without the LCD connected and the issue is still seem.  And, I see the same issue with the jumper removed at J101.

I have a second MSP-EXP430FR2433 Launchpad and it is working fine and was able to update the firmware on it, so perhaps the one getting the Vcc error has a hardware issue.  If needed, I could just connect the ez-FET from the good board to the bad board to program it.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Jon,

Sounds you board has some hardware issue. Sure, you could get it work by jump the ez-FET from another board.
