MSP430AFE253: MSP430

Part Number: MSP430AFE253
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPBSL

So we are going to use MSP430 for a new sensor product. It is so tiny that we  are exploring what parts we may  not have to assembly with each product.

A curious question here is : can you program it through  wireless means of any sort?..or some connection means that is robust on a tiny pcb?

Then a whole lotta fragile hardware such as connectors etc are not needed....will a TRX of mW be more robust to add than a "connector"?

Really?

  • Hello Robin,

This MSP430 does not have a radio of any kind so what you are proposing to do is not possible without another chip to handle the wireless communication. Even in such a situation, the MSP430AFE253 you have chosen does not have a BSL for easy programming. Typically in a wireless update scenario, the attached wireless device could use the BSL interface to program or update the MSP430. Even though this MSP430 does not have a BSL, you could use our MSPBOOT, application side boot loader, to do the job as well. For more information about MSPBOOT, visit the MSPBSL webpage.

Now if you just need to program the part once and not update really, then I suggest to program the parts before placing onto your PCB. Work with your distributor or board manufacturer for these type of services.
  • JH: yes, yes. I did not think it through. Of course, program it on its booster & then install in the product. In fact, that allows us to use YQD pkg.
    thnx much
