EVM430-FR6043: or EVM430-FR6047

Part Number: EVM430-FR6043
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5994, MSP430FR6047

Hello.

Tell me please.
Is it possible to use 430FR6043 or 430FR6047 to measure the gas flow in large measuring areas, 5-10m distance between sensors.

Best Regards,

Yuriy.

  • Hello Yuriy,

The devices themselves would be able to measure the time of flight, but you would need to use an amplified excitation voltage to the transducers as the signal would be too low with the standard 3V operating voltage. We have not done any testing here on anything near that large, so its hard to determine exactly how much amplification would be required. Another thing to consider is that most gases will attenuate the signal as well. We have a reference design that can be used with the EVM to boost the excitation to 12V, which could be a good starting point to test.

  • Thanks for the quick response!

Of course, the signal will be too low. Therefore, in addition to your suggestions, I'm going to use sensors with a frequency of 40-80 kHz. Can I use these devices at these frequencies?

    Best Regards,

    Yuriy

  • Yuriy,

The MSP430FR60xx devices USS module can support down to 130kHz.  It could be worth first trying with something in that range.

We also have another design that could operate at the lower frequency using the SPI module to generate the pulses on a standard MSP430FR5994 without the USS module.

  • The fact is that the environment with a very large attenuation! And therefore it is necessary to use the frequency below! Plus, this device should measure the level!

I understand that the MSP430FR5994 allows you to realize the measurement of long times, at sensor frequencies of 40-80 kHz? With an external amplifier?

    Regards,

    Yuriy.

  • Yuriy,

The FR5994 design would allow you to measure at these frequencies.  We have not tested this with external amplifier though.  You would need to adapt the amplifier design mentioned earlier which is designed with MSP430FR6047 in mind or design your own amplifier.
