MSP430FR2633: Captivate Touch Function with wearing gloves

Part Number: MSP430FR2633
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CAPTIVATE-BSWP

hi,

as we know, the captivate does support gloves touch, now i'm tuning this function with:

HW: TI,s Captivate MCU Development Kit, the touch sensor board is CAPTIVATE-BSWP

SW: ..\ CapTIvateDesignCenter_1_70_00_03\CapTIvateDesignCenterWorkspace\CAPTIVATE-BSWP

but I can't get a good performance for the gloves touch.

the major part I'm tuning is the touch event thershold level down from 10 to 2, but still not easy to get the touch event, what else i need to adjust?

or do you have an example project of gloves touch for CAPTIVATE-BSWP? i can import it on Captivate Design Center to evaluate the performance, thank you.

  • Hi Erik,

You can increase the overall sensitivity by increasing the Conversion_Count setting. You can do this in the CapTIvate design center, conversion tab for the button group sensor, or you can easily change the data structure in the CAPT_UserConfig.c file. What do you currently have this value set to? My guess is you have it set to 250 now. Try larger values up to say, 500. Just note that with increased sensitivity, neighboring buttons become more sensitive.
  • Dear Dennis,

Your suggestion is great to me, it's much better now!

by the way, does TI have any CAPTIVATE Touch report which includes gloves touch test? Any kind of report is ok, any kind of surface material is ok.

  • Hi Erik,

Unfortunately there is not. We have worked with a couple of customers that were attempting the same.
As you will discover, depending on the thickness of the glove, you will have to adjust the sensitivity accordingly.
But what happens is without gloves, the sensor is now too sensitive to just a finger. The tricky part is finding a sensitivity and threshold that works for both cases. From experience, this is not easy.

What type of gloves are you trying to use?
