MSP-EXP432P401R: board is powered by pc but won't connect to out-of-box-demo

Part Number: MSP-EXP432P401R

I followed the included instructions after receiving new board, downloaded and installed CCS and SDK, installed properly, out of box GUI and CCS will not connect to target.  Using Windows 10, no COM ports noticeable after unhiding and adding COM ports in device manager.  I can change RGB frequency and color with on-board switches manually while board is connected via USB cable to laptap.  How can I troubleshoot connection and interface with software?

  • Hi Daniel,

Which error do you see when you try connecting CCS to target?

You need to see the board as COM port.

    Lukas

  • This is the error:

CS_DAP_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -260 @ 0x0) An attempt to connect to the XDS110 failed. The cause may be one or more of: no XDS110 is connected, invalid firmware update, invalid XDS110 serial number, or faulty USB cable. The firmware and serial number may be updated using the xdsdfu utility found in the .../ccs_base/common/uscif/xds110 directory of your installation. View the ReadMe.txt file there for instructions. (Emulation package 8.3.0.00003)

My Device Manager 'sort of' sees the board in COM ports. When I click Action->Add Legacy Hardware it asks me to Install hardware automatically or choose from a list.  I tried both, auto doesn't find anything and the list under Ports (COM & LPT) has Texas Instruments, Texas Instruments Incoporated, and Texas Instruments, Inc. under manufacturer, but my board is not listed under the model column after selecting any of the 3 manufacturer choices I listed.  If I select any of the models, say MSP Debug Interface, Device Manager tells me the hardware and software are installed, but the device may not work properly.  This device cannot start. (Code10)

The board is connected to and powered by USB port on laptop, but doesn't show up in COM ports on Device Manager.  I tried opening a serial connection with PuTTy, but it just dings when I click OK.  I tried to connect via the out-of-box GUI, but I get Target Status: Could not connect to target:  I tried to connect to the board through the online TI Resource Explorer, does not detect board.

  • Hi Daniel,

Do you have a chance to try this board on a different computer?

    Best regards

    Lukas

  • Not really, I need it to work on the laptop I've been using.

  • I used a different cable to connect the board to my laptop, seems to recognize the device properly now.  Thanks for your time.

  • Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your update, I'm glad the issue could be resolved.

Could you please mark this issue as resolved here.

    Many thanks

    Lukas
