EK-TM4C1294XL: Launchpad not getting detected in COM Port

Part Number: EK-TM4C1294XL

Dear Sir,

I recently purchased an EK-TM4C1294XL Launchpad from mouser. I have used the board for running examples and getting familiar with CCS. But on the second day when I connected the board to my laptop, the COM port was not getting detected, through the power LED as well as all the four user LEDs were glowing when I connect it through the debugger port via OTG-USB cable to my laptop.

I have no idea why this is happening and what I should do to fix the board. Please do help if you faced a similar problem and got it fixed.

             Thank you in advance.

  • Some issues about your post are unclear to me. It may just be a clarification of some of the terms. There are two USB ports on the EK-TM4C1294XL. One is a micro USB connector for the debugger. The second is an micro-A -B USB OTG port. Typically the board is powered through the DEBUG port and that port creates the virtual serial port. Please clarify which port you are connected to.

If you are connected to the debug port, you should see both a "Stellaris Virtual Serial Port" and a "Stellaris In-Circuit Debug Interface" in the device manager.

Is this virtual port what you are now missing? Do you see the In-Circuit Debug Interface?

  • Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply. I connected my board through the DEBUG Port and yes it is the virtual port that I am missing. And I do not see the In-Circuit Debug Interface.

I do see the power LED on when I connect my board to my laptop through the Debug port but I don't see the Stellaris Virtual Port as well as the ICDI Interface.

  • Do you see a "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade" device in device manager when you plug into the debugger USB port? This happens when the firmware in the ICDI device (U20) is accidentally erased. It can be reprogrammed using LM Flash Programmer.

  • No sir, I don't see any Firmware Upgrade in the device manager when I plug into the debugger port. Port is not at all being detected. Am also not able to hard reset the board as I get Target not Connected every time. I also tried with different laptops and cables but the problem is the same.

  • You might try the unlock procedure using LM Flash Programmer. The procedure is described on page 21 of:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spma075/spma075.pdf

Make sure you are holding down the RESET button when you connect JTAG to the board and don't release the RESET button until instructed by the LM Flash Programmer.

  • I have not heard back from you so I assume you have resolved this issue. If not, just respond to this thread, or ask a related question if this thread has already locked.
