DRV8837: The control side does not have the waveform

Part Number: DRV8837

Engineering: Design a valve drive for a gas meter by using the drive chip DRV8837.

Issue: no output on the control side, but there are waveforms on both ends of the chip-to-motor, as the figure below shows:

The customer would like to know that what's the possible reason.

    I don't understand the diodes on the inputs.  What is the reasoning for these?  Also, is nSLEEP also at GND potential thru R4.

    Outputs should be in COAST state if 0V is measured on inputs.  Are the outputs somehow being externally driven by rotating motor?
