DRV8908-Q1: DRV8904/08/12 motor driver type problem

Part Number: DRV8908-Q1

Hi team,

Our customer want to use one piece DRV89XX family(8904/8908/8912) to drive different types of motors: stepper motor, brushed DC motor and delay simultaneously.

Just using one DRV89XX's different output channels for different motors. Is this a applicable design? thanks.

  • Iris,

Driving different brushed motors, solenoids is possible with DRV89xx family.  Stepper can be done in full step mode as there is not integrated current regulation on the device.  I would recommend a DRV8889 or DRV8899 for stepper drive in auto application.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Just to confirm, so it is OK to use one piece DRV89XX different outputs to drive different load by SPI ?

And another question. Does DRV89XX can drive stepper motor only in full step mode?  Half step mode and etc are not available so you recommend DRV8889 for stepper?

        Thank you very much.

  • Iris,

Yes, SPI is used to control different outputs.

Correct, recommend DRV8889 for stepper for easy control with STEP/DIR interface.

    Regards,

    Ryan
