DRV10974: rotation issue

Part Number: DRV10974

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

The customer use this drive IC to drive the brushless motor inside the printer laser box.

Issue: rotate with acceleration all the time, and stops after a few seconds, then repeats the issue. Internal resistance of the motor: 0.8 ohms.

The customer would like to know what's reason for that. Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

This issue is probably happening because the ADV, RMP and CS resistors are not tuned right for your setup. Can you provide the motor inductance, BEMF constant, maximum speed and pole pairs of the motor?

Device stops spinning the motor after few seconds because a fault gets triggered. Device waits for 5 seconds (Lock release time) and tries to spin the motor again.

Can you ask the customer to share the phase current waveform? I would like to see at what stage of the motor operation, fault gets triggered. I would highly recommend to check the tuning guide (link below) to select the appropriate ADV, RMP and CS resistors.
