DRV8847: When powered on, DRV8847RTER will short happen

Part Number: DRV8847
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8837

Dears,

When testing DRV8847RTER, short to gnd happend, need some help for this case.

Motor is 4-pin interface.

VM working voltage is 12.8v.

Two timing sequence is tried. Under timing 1, pin OUT3/OUT4 will short to GND. Under timing 2, pin OUT1/OUT2 will short to GND(timing reference datasheet 7.3.7.1 Full-Stepping Mode).

  • Hello!

Are you applying a short externally or is the chip shorting on power up?  I am not understanding exactly what is happening.  A picture would help.

    Please also post schematic.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Dears,

short issues has been solved, cus power IC.

But new issues happened. when powered on, our DRV8837 power consumption is 1.3A, motor consumption is 0.1A around

attached schematic diagram for reference, help to check.

  • Hello,

With the ISEN pins connected to ground the current regulation is not enabled.   How are you measuring the 1.3A of power consumption and the 0.1A in the motor?  And is the motor being held in place by the motor driver when that happens?  1.3A seems about right for the RMS holding current of the driver chip without a lower current regulation value in place.

Just to make sure - did you try replacing the DRV8837 chip after the short issue was fixed?  It may have been damaged by the short scenario.

    Regards,

    Jacob
