DRV8106-Q1: Integration in new designs

Part Number: DRV8106-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8706S-Q1EVM, UCC25600

Hi,
I'm currently doing an automotive new design and I have some concerns regarding the DRV8106-Q1. I was wondering if someone faced the same issues and could help me with that.

My application is driving a dc motor . I want to control it using an H-bridge and the DRV8106-Q1. My questions are the followings

1. Why don’t I see the transformer in the h-bridge of the schematic design of the DRV8706S-Q1EVM ? I want to use the DRV8106-Q1 in a half bridge topology and thus boost the input voltage from 12V to 24V so If this controller does not take the add of a transformer in the bridge this would not fit my application.

2.Can I program the chip with an eval board? Is there an internal eeprom in the controller, does it keep its configuration, or It has to be programmed at every power up?

3.Assuming I do not need the functionalities that come with the SPI, does the DRV8106-Q1 needs to be programmed at all or in that run with its raw internal circuits?

Thanks a lot guys !!

  • Hello,

    1)  I don't understand the question.  Can you draw your usage case, take a picture, and post so I can understand what you are trying to do better?

    2)  There is no internal EEPROM.  When power is lost, all configuration is lost.  You must send new SPI config on power up.

    3)  If you are OK with the defaults in the register as outlined in the datasheet, it can run without SPI communications.  We also offer a "H" version of the device that has 4 pins to adjust some of the behavior of the device and requires no SPI communication.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

First of all thank you for your answer. Regarding question 1 here are more details : when you look at a typical h-bridge config, you usually have the transformer as highlighted in Fig1. However when I look at the  DRV8706S-Q1EVM  schematic(Fig2) I don't see any. In my application, my h-bridge needs to act as a boost converter in the mean time as being an h-bridge. Thus I'm wondering if the DRV8706S-Q1EVM can suit my application because I would like to use this circuit.

Thank you for your time Ryan.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. I saw you are looking for half bridge converter. Then DRV family is motor driver(Half bridge motor driver). UCC family has similar product what you are looking for- for example UCC2600. Unfortunately I am not supporting UCC family so UCC25600 may not fit your requirement.

Please create new thread if you have more questions about UCC family.
