MCT8316A: Regarding the EXT_CLK pin of MCT8316A1V, where should it be connected when not in use?

Part Number: MCT8316A

Dear Specialists,

My customer is designing the MCT8316A1V and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

I am designing a circuit for the MCT8316A1V and would like to know about the treatment of EXT_CLK pin.

Regarding the EXT_CLK pin of MCT8316A1V,

Where should it be connected when not in use, open, AVDD or GND?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

Thanks for your question on the Motor Drives E2E Forum.

I will aim to provide an answer on this by the end of the week!

    Best,

    Robert

  • Hi Shinichi,

For configuring the EXT_CLK pin of the MCT8316A1V, it is best to leave it floating when not in use.

In cases like this when the datasheet does not provide enough specific application information, you can look at the evaluation module (EVM) design files to see how our EVM is configured. The datasheet is the best source for application information and should be trusted over everything else, however, the EVM design files is a great place to find answers to these types of questions. https://www.ti.com/tool/MCT8316AEVM#design-files

See the screenshot below for EXT_CLK EVM schematic configuration:

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand EXT_CLK should be left open when not in use.

    I'll share with the customer.

Also, I confirm the EVM design files.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
