  • Hey Annie,

Can you first try these steps yourself with the GUI?  I attempted to get this working a few months ago and got it working on my TI laptop but not personal computers: https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1275138/boost-drv8711-gui-problem I'd love to hear if these steps work for you and the customer or not.

Also please try to send the customer a non-BOOST EVM, we have had far less issues with this one: https://www.ti.com/tool/DRV8711EVM

Flashing the firmware onto the MSP430 launchpad:

    1. Install the TI tool UNIFLASH https://www.ti.com/tool/UNIFLASH#downloads
    2. Open UNIFLASH, plug in your MSP-EXP430G2, and enter "MSP430G2553" as device name, select the On-Chip version.
    3. Choose the first entry in the connection list, should be "TI MSP430 USB1" or similar.
    4. Click Start.
    5. Browse to the firmware file - should be BOOST-DRV8711_FIRMWAREv1.11.out in the folder "...\slvc575b\BOOST-DRV8711 Hardware and Software Files\Application\BOOST-DRV8711_FIRMWAREv1.11\Debug\" after you downloaded the hardware and software files from the BOOSt-DRV8711 page.
    6.  Click Load Image.  This should successfully flash the BOOST-DRV8711 firmware onto the launchpad

    GUI Composer Runtime V1 install:

    1. Download and install GUI Composer v1 Runtime version 6.2.0.1 from here: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/gc_downloads_v1runtime.html
    2. Move the entire BOOST-DRV8711_GUIv1.0 folder into "C:\ti\guicomposer\webapps\BOOST-DRV8711_GUIv1.0".  Create the webapps folder if it doesn't exist. Don't run it yet.
    3.

    Serial Port FIFO Setting:

    1. Open the Windows Device Manager.  Expand Ports (COM & LPT)
    2. Select the MSP430 device - should be named "MSP430 Application UART (COM###)".  Right click it and select Properties, go to Port Settings, Advanced
    3. Disable the Use FIFO buffers box.  Click OK, OK.

    Hardware setup

    1. Rotate the 2 headers on RX/TX circled in a black box in the top right of the below image.  Make them match the image
    2. Connect and turn on your EVM Power Supply

Finally, Run the BOOST-DRV8711_GUIv1.0.exe file.  Give it a couple minutes to set up.  If you're lucky, it should connect and work - it worked on my computer!

    Regards,

    Jacob
