  • Hi PY,

The motor you shared with us is a unipolar stepper motor. This is a 5-wire type and does not work well with bipolar stepper drivers. The DRV8889-Q1 is a bipolar stepper driver. Do you need automotive qualified device for this motor?

Please refer to this application note, How to Drive Unipolar Stepper Motors with DRV8xxx  https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sloa312/sloa312.pdf.

You can ignore pin-3 of this motor and leave it unconnected. Connect 1 and 5 to AOUT1 and AOUT2 and connect 2 and 4 to BOUT1 and BOUT2 of the DRV8889-Q1 or any other bipolar stepper driver. With this connection to the DRV8889-Q1 only full-step mode should be used. No other microstep mode will be supported.

  • Hi Murugavel,

Yes, Q-grade is needed. which device will you suggest to drive this motor? thanks!

  • Hi PY,

Please review the application note. Like I mentioned if you drive with DRV8899-Q1 (DRV8889-Q1 may be overkill) you can use only in full-step mode. EVM is available for evaluation.
