MCT8329A: I could not get ACK from MCT8329A

I made a MCT8329A use board. I2C bus use.

but I could not get ACK from our board.

then, I bought MCT8329EVM.

I compered MCT8329EVM and our board.

then, both board 0xc0,W,0xd0,0x00,0xe6 ACK are no problem.

next 0xc1,R,0x00 MCT8329EVM back to ACK, but our board back to NAK !

I can't understand why each board data different.

nFALUT,FG pin pull-up +5V,DVDD 1.5V,AVDD 3.3V

if you know why different, please teach me.

Hello Hiro,

1. If you are using an external supply for the 5V pull-ups on the nFAULT and FG pins can you make sure these pins are pulled high before providing power to the MCT8329?

2. Do you have pull-ups on the SDA and SCL pins?

3. Could you provide which MCU you are using for the I2C communication on your board?

1.yes,I using external supply.

I got when power_on signal. if MCT8329 power is PVDD, for example, PVDD become 5V when VCC is not 5V.

2.yes.shows the circuit diagram.

3.I using R5F52306ADFM by Renesas. and I don't use internal peripheral ,I using port PC3(SDA Nch open Drain),PC4(SCL CMOS output ) and control by software.

Hi Hiro,

The timing of the I2C communication can be a bit tricky especially for software based I2C communication implementations. I would recommend referring to the following CCS project which implements software based I2C communication protocol using a MSP432FR2311: 5086.SoftwareI2C_MSP430FR2311_MCF8316AEVM.zip

Please note that the example project provided is made for the MCF8316A, so you'll need to update the register addresses and I2C target address accordingly for MCT8329A.

then, I2C waiting PxIN port became H. this PxIN where connected MCT8316A,for example nFAULT? or FG?

I could not find from circuit because it is very small.

if you know teach me a MCT8316A pin name, probably same of MCT8329A.
