DRV8889-Q1: Hold current 0mA

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1

Hello,

We are using a stepper motor driver which is DRV8889A-Q1. The configuration for stepper motor driver are the following:

TRQ_DAC = 56.25%

MICROSTEP_MODE = 1/2

SLEW_RATE = 10-V/µs

DRVOFF pin is permanently connected to ground.

Required condition in our application are the following:

Run current 800mA

Hold current 0mA

When the motor is in hold position, we measured the current flowing through the coils and found it to be around 30mA. We control the VREF pin with a PWM signal and the duty cycle value is 0 when the required hold current is 0mA.Our question is why do we measure 30mA on the coils when VREF is 0mV. Is there any limitation in the stepper motor driver or is a specific driver configuration required to keep the hold current at 0mA?

Thanks!
