Hi TI,

I'm working on FMEA for coil driver.

I can only assume the worst-case after shorting random pins, so anything can happen. Your assessment could help me with fault diagnostics, maybe identified faults are no longer the case.

Do you have your Fault assessment for this IC?

Hi Tomek,

All TI devices, including the DRV8251A, has protection features to protect the device from harmful conditions such as shorts.

The basic protection features are in the datasheet.

No, this is a hardware (GPIO) device and does not have any registers for specific fault identification.

Hi David,

I've been thinking about situation when we have single random shortage between pins.For example IPROPI is shorted with VREF. What's gonna happen? I don't have detailed design of the internal circuit, it's hard to determine the DRV output state. I have to assume worst case which is the coil is energized.

We don't have a specific FMEA for this device. However, my suggestion would be to order the DRV8215AEVM and test for yourself.
