DRV8329: DRV8329, Dynamic Braking

Dynamic Braking, I would like to drive the DRV8329 PWM input pins for Dynamic Braking, All INHx inputs LOW and All INLx inputs HIGH. In the 3-phase bridge all upper MOSFETs OFF and all Lower MOSFETs ON. Is there any logic in the DRV8329 that will prevent this from happing. Can this be maintained 100% of the time. Any other issue I look out for? Thanks in advance.

Hey Roy,

In 6x mode, you will be able to control each FET by itself and you can implement this LS breaking you described.

Could you explain what you meant by maintain this 100% of the time?

Hi Akshay,

For the 100% mode, just need to have the upper gates off and the lower gate on for an indefinite time. Just to confirm it should not be an issue. I was thinking if there was a charge pump that would require refreshing it may be an issue.

Hey Roy,

The LS gates are supplied by the GVDD pin. The TCP is present on the HS to achieve 100% duty cycle with a bootstrap architecture. There shouldnt be an issue with extended LS braking as long as you are not hand spinning the motor during this state or having a scenario where the motor is generating back EMF and seeing current that are exceeding the FETs capability.
