DRV8412- 2 Brushed DC Motor and Stepper Motor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8412, DRV8816, DRV8871, DRV8870, DRV8872, DRV8880

Hello,

I have DRV8412-C2-KIT. I am also using and like to build my project on 2XDC_Motor example and stepper example. DRV8412-C2-Kit allows me to drive 2 DC brushed motor OR one Stepper motor. I need to drive 2DC Brushed DC motor AND one Stepper motor same time. I have to sync ramp of stepper motor when I am running my DC brushed motor in current control mode. What is the best way? What do I need to buy?

  • Hi,

I am not sure I understand your question. Are you trying to control both a stepper and 2 brushed motors with one DRV8412 at the same time?
  • Good Morning Rick,
Thank you very much for your prompt response.
DRV8412-C2-Kit comprised of F28035 Control card and DRV 8412 integrated motor driver. My application required me to drive two brushed DC motor AND one stepper motor at the same time.

    Question:
My question is how could i drive two DC brushed motor and one stepper motor using F28035 or F28069 control card. I like to use one control card but no problem using multiple driver board.
I do have extra DRV8816 driver board for brushed DC motor and F28069 pluggable control card. I will be happy to buy extra DRV8412 board if required.
    Thank you very much.

  • Hi,

I suggest you discuss this with the C2000 group. Basically you need enough processing power and PWM to manage the 2x brushed motors and 1 stepper.

What are the voltage and current requirements of the stepper and brushed motors? There are several DRV8xxx devices with a simple interface that can minimize the processing power.
  • Hi Rick,
I am driving DC motors at 24 Volt and max current is 0.35 Amp.
I am driving (16 Micro steps) Stepper Motor also at 24 Volt and Max current is 2.0 Amp
I like to use 2XDC motor and Stepper motor example codes in my application.
  • Hi,

Please take a look at the DRV8870, DRV8871, and DRV8872 for the DC motors.
The DRV8880 may be of interest for the stepper.

In both cases, the current regulation is controlled by the devices reducing the demands on the mcu.
  • Rick,
Thank you very much for driver options suggestion.
My main question is how could i drive two DC brushed motor and one stepper motor using F28035 or F28069 control card? I like to use one control card but no problem using multiple driver board. I could use DRV8412 to drive either two DC brushed motor or stepper motor.
I am looking forward for your help suggesting which driver would make possible to control using F28035 control card which is plug in to the DRV8412 board? Is it possible using suggested drivers? What i see is each driver board has its own MUC on board.
    Thanks,
    SG
  • Hi,

Most of the driver boards have an on board mcu to communicate with a GUI for ease of evaluation.

To control a driver using an external mcu, most boards have either removable resistor packs or jumpers.
