DRV8832-Q1: DRV8832-Q1 Delay Time and Maximum Operating Frequency

Hi,

I am working with the DRV8832-Q1 H-Bridge IC. In the datasheet, there is no information regarding the delay time (between the input and the output signals). There is only information about the 12ms time that it can take from sleep mode to 100% Duty cycle mode (7.3.2).

In my application, I am using two 90 kHz PWM signals (complementary) from a microcontroller, which provides the two inputs of the H-Bridge. But the output is always having an unequal delay time, with a jitter of more than 200 ns. Is this already too high for the H-Bridge? If so, what is the high frequency that is mentioned in the datasheet (7.3.2)?

Hi Naveen,

How unequal are the delay times?

Is the 200ns jitter the same across both inputs/outputs?

I will check if the jitter is too high and how high that high frequency is.

Hi Naveen,

Are you looking to PWM the inputs at a high frequency?

This device is intended for inputs to be set at 100% duty cycle.

We have other devices that can better work for your application.

Before I suggest anything else, are there any specifications motor driver wise that the driver IC requires for your end application?

Hi Naveen,

Motor driver that meets your need of 90kHz include the DRV8837 and DRV8838. Please, consider them as each of those DRVs can drive the motors as you indicate you need to.

Hi Hector,

The delay time is around 1.2 µs with a jitter of more than 200 ns. This occurs in both the output channels and not in the input. The input channels have almost no jitter, as they are the PWM signals from timer peripheral of microcontroller.

Previously, I was using DRV8837 but moved to DRV8832-Q1, since it is automotive qualified. I am looking for an automotive qualified part. If this part is not helpful, does it make sense to look into the low-gate drivers like UCC27524A-Q1 ??

My application involves driving some induction coil and not a motor exactly. But, I am not sure whether the low-gate drivers can work with PWM signals.

Hi Naveen,

Apologies I did not catch this response.

We do not have an automotive device for your operational voltage that can operate at that frequency. At mid to higher voltage, we do have devices that can achieve your goal.
