TPS2412: Voltage required on VDD pin of TPS2412, when using TPS2412 for Oring 12V power supplies

Part Number: TPS2412

Hi,

We want to use TPS2412 as a Oring controller to OR two 12V power supplies using MOSFET.

What should be the VDD pin voltage of TPS2412, if A input is connected to 12VDC?

It should be 12V or 5V?

  • Hi Kiran,

VDD can be greater or lower than the controlled bus voltage as long as it is greater than 3V.

So, in this case you can connect it to 12V directly.

  • HI Praveen,

    Thanks for your prompt response.

Your feedback "VDD can be greater or lower than the controlled bus voltage as long as it is greater than 3V" is confusing me.

What I understand is; if bus voltage is 12V then VDD can be greater or lower than the bus voltage, but how much?

    And

VDD voltage should be atleast 3V.

If possible please explain in detail with example.

  • Hi Kiran,

    To make it simple,

    • Any voltage between 3V to 16V can be applied to VDD
    • Any voltage between 0.8V to 16V can be applied to VBUS

Since your bus voltage is 12V, you can connect VDD to VBUS.

You can refer to datasheet section '9.2.2 Detailed Design Procedure' for more detailed design procedure on where to connect VDD.

    Hope I answer your question.

  • Hi Praveen,

    Thanks. My issue is resolved.
