TPS56637: Output Capacitance Table 4

Part Number: TPS56637

Hello,

I was reviewing table 4 for the recommendations of COUT.  In our application, our loads have a much larger COUT effective range than 100uF and I was looking to analyze the implications of this on the TPS56637.  I did not find a calculation tool that goes into more detail on the constraints on that maximum value of COUT.  Does TI have a tool to help understand the tradeoffs more?

  • Hi Jason,

Sorry that for this device we don't have the calculator tool now, since the recommended table can support most of the application for this device now.

For the reason why there's constraints on maximum Cout, you can refer to the application note:  https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slvaf11/slvaf11.pdf

I think you can share the schematic or the selected components & operating condition. We could help to evaluate if it's stable. Since ESR of output cap can also help to boost phase margin, so the stability can be ensured sometimes with POSCAP or electrolytic capacitor even if the Cout value exceeds the recommended range.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
