BQ25895: PMID Pin in BQ25895 phone charging

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2514

Hi E2E,

Good day.

Our customer is using the BQ25895 charger and they’re trying to use its boost function with PMID pin and OTG. They would like to charge the phone using this PMID pin but they have a problem interfacing it with a USB connector. Is there a USB dedicated charging port controller to interface it with a USB connector or they will need another IC to do that? How that charger will detect the USB connector where the phone is plugged in? Is it correct to use TPS2514ADBVR, supplied by the PMID voltage, to interface with the USB connector? Please see the schematic attached.

Regards,
Carlo

  • Hello Carlo,

The charger will supply 5V (or specified regulation) on PMID with up to 3.1A, it would be whatever attaches on the PMIDs pin to stop it from collapsing the PMID supply, like how the charger does when an adaptor is attached. You can ask the TPS2514 team if it can work, from what I can tell I think it would work fine if you need that detection method.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
