BQ25723: 0V Battery Recovery

Hi,

Does BQ25723 have a mode before precharge that can allows it to recover batteries that have an open pack protector?

Context, copy/paste from a Maxim datasheet: "Typically, a battery pack's internal protection circuit opens if the battery has seen an overcurrent, undervoltage, or overvoltage. When a battery with an open internal pack protector is used with this charger, the [recovery] mode current flows into the 0V battery; this current raises the pack’s terminal voltage to the level where the internal pack protection switch closes."

Hi Dan,

Thanks for reaching out.

You can still set charge current through the ChargeCurrent() register, it will be clamped but the charger will still trying to send current through. There is also the "AUTO_WAKEUP_EN" feature that could be useful in certain situations.

Is there a way to make the AUTO_WAKEUP_EN bit default to being on when powered up?

In our application, the BQ25723 would need to provide current to the battery protector for it to close it's switch.
The processor wouldn't have power until after the protection IC closes it's switch but it sounds like the processor would need to be powered beforehand in order to set the AUTO_WAKEUP_EN register.

Hi Dan,

No, unfortunately "AUTO_WAKEUP_EN" defaults to "0" at startup.

In your case, after adaptor is plugged in, VSYS voltage would come up. You can use that VSYS rail to power your processor and handle all communication afterward.
