BQ24295: Put bq24295 on the PCB of bq25890H

Hi, team,

My customer had a design with bq25890H, but due to the heavy supply shortage. They want use put bq24295 on the PCB of bq25890H, because 24295 is pin-pin with bq25890H.

However, there are several pins have different definition. Can they only connect pin 2 for Vbus input, but leave pin24 float? Their charging current is 2A.

Can they leave pin PSEL float? Per datasheet, at power on or adaptor plug-in, bq24295 detect PSEL voltage and decide input current limit register and VBUS status register. But they can also change the current limit by software. So that won't be a problem. Right?

Besides these two questions, please suggest if we have missed something? Thanks!

Hello Nicole,

Which charger were they looking at that used the PSEL? Both the BQ25890H and BQ24295 don't have PSEL.

I will need to check if it is okay to have only 1 VBUS connected on the charger, considering the BQ25890H has a higher current rating I think it should be okay but I will confirm.

Is the boost mode function used in their application? Or HVDCP?

Sorry. It's bq24259. They need to use bq24259 in the pcb of bq25890H.

Hello Nicole,

You can overwrite any of the detection input current settings after detection, there are other differences like the K_ILIM value which may affect the limiting current.

Are they just cutting the traces that don't correlate (D+/D-/DSEL)?

Hello Nicole,

They can over-write the detection method for PSEL of the bq24259. Are they leaving those D+/- pins connected to the bq24259?

I would verify the ILIM is within the same range if the K proportion has changed.
